Derman has been part of City and Hackney Wellbeing Network, commissioned by Hackney Council, and led by City and Hackney Mind since February 2015. The Network offers one to one support and a range of group activities to clients which aimed to improve emotional wellbeing, re-validate their skills to recover, live independently, and to manage their mental and physical well-being.
Mental Health Recovery Support Service provides emotional and practical support to adults with severe mental health problems from the Kurdish, Turkish, Turkish Cypriot and Eastern Europeans Turkish communities in Hackney.
Our aim is to prevent and reduce hospital admissions and re-admissions by providing bilingual culturally sensitive support to those with mental health problems.
What we offer?
We support clients by arranging psychiatrist appointments, home visits in emergencies, attending CPA meeting and improving service users’ access to mental health and social services. We organise monthly awareness sessions (for service users) to increase awareness and knowledge about mental health issues and to tackle the stigma attached to them. We also provide consultancy in terms of cultural, religious and otherwise sensitivities, traditions and aspirations of people from our communities to professionals working with our communities.
1:1 Support Sessions
We have a limited capacity to provide support for those who have more difficult and long term mental health problems. This help can be mental health advocacy, counselling and /or welfare rights. Please talk to Mental health Team manager if we have vacancy to take on new cases.
Our activities offered in a group environment can have many benefits. It offers a support network, provides the opportunity to meet others experiencing similar concerns as well learning new skills through different activities. Together with the recovery support workers and the other group members you’ll be encouraged to talk about your experience with other people who have had similar experiences. This can help you with feeling less alone and isolated, and also assist with gradually gaining confidence and building your self-esteem.
